January 26: Today, the wisteria, clematis and trellises come down. The concrete trellis posts are about three feet deep. Definitely deeper than usual. Odd, but not really for this house. Wisteria and clematis are chopped down to almost nothing. The roots are left for the excavator.
I start digging out the herbs I want to keep and put them in pots I collected from the dump. I have to quit because I run out of steam.
I grow old … I grow old …
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.
Head in for tea and jelly bellies to fortify.
